L'héritage des draperies médiévales

This survey was carried out over what has now become the Nord/ Pas-de-Calais «Région» and dealt with three different sorts of problems : 1°. As far as the range of fabrics produced is concerned, the woolens and the worsteds stand out. In the XVth century woolen manufacturing was ruined by English competition while worsted manufacturing developed. 2°. The geography of manufacturing shows that between cities and villages relations were characterized now by competition, and even war at times, now by a sharing of activities, but there always remained actual rivalry. 3° In the field of manufacturing organization, one can make out periods when a scattered production is controlled by the merchants (XIIIth century, XVIth century) and others when manufacturers concentrate production (XlVth- XVth) : commercial vs industrial capitalism.L'enquête a porté sur l'actuelle région du Nord/Pas-de-Calais. Trois problèmes ont été abordés : 1° Dans la gamme des produits, il faut distinguer les draps (woolens) et les saies (worsted). Au XVe siècle la draperie a été ruinée par la concurrence anglaise ; la sayetterie s'est développée. 2e La géographie de la production montre qu'entre villes et villages, il y a eu parfois concurrence, voire guerre, parfois partage des tâches, toujours compétition. 3e L'organisation de la production permet de distinguer les périodes où une production atomisée est contrôlée par les marchands (XIIIe siècle, XVIe siècle) et celles où les drapiers concentrent la production (XIV-XVe) : capitalisme commercial contre capitalisme industriel.Het onderzoek had betrekking op het huidige gebied Nord/Pas-de-Calais. Dde problemen werden behandeld. 1. In het aanbod van produkten moet men een onderscheid maken tussen de zogenaamde «woolens» -lakens en de sajet (worsted)- lakens. In de 15 de eeuw ging de lakenindustrie failliet wegens de Engelse concurrentie ; de sajetterie kwam op. 2. Het geografisch overzicht van de produktie toont aan dat er tussen steden en dorpen soms concurrentie was, zelfs oorlog, maar ook arbeidsverdeling, in elk geval concurrentie. 3. Voor wat de organisatie van de produktie betreft, ziet men dat de handelaars de versnipperde produktie controleren in de 13de en I6de eeuw, terwijl lakenwevers de produktie concentreren in de I4de en 15de eeuw : handelskapitalisme tegen industriekapitalisme.Derville Alain.
