This survey was carried out over what has now become the Nord/ Pas-de-Calais «Région» and dealt with three different sorts of problems : 1°. As far as the range of fabrics produced is concerned, the woolens and the worsteds stand out. In the XVth century woolen manufacturing was ruined by English competition while worsted manufacturing developed. 2°. The geography of manufacturing shows that between cities and villages relations were characterized now by competition, and even war at times, now by a sharing of activities, but there always remained actual rivalry. 3° In the field of manufacturing organization, one can make out periods when a scattered production is controlled by the merchants (XIIIth century, XVIth century) and others when...
