Le site gallo-romain précoce des Tamaris à Seclin (Nord)

It is owing to road-works that H. Halbaut discovers, in March 1982, an archaeologic site, in the « rue du Fourchon », south of the city of Seclin (Nord). Excavations, carried out by S. Revillion, the Seclin city archaeologist, revealed a whole network of ancient ditches probably contignous to a dwelling of the native type. Pottery findings, in a Gaulish style but of the Gallo-Roman period, are closely related to such other early Gallo-Roman sites as Noyelles-Godault, Lewarde, and above all Villeneuve-Saint-Germain. They might be dated back to the beginning of the Augustan age, around 30 to 20 B.C. The study of the fauna remnants gathered in the ditches enables us to conclude to an animal economy founded on the breeding of cows, pigs et sheep. Those latter moreover provided the wool required by the weaving also practised on the site as betokened by the many fragments of weaving loom weights hitherto collected.C'est à l'occasion de travaux de voierie que H. Halbaut découvre, en mars 1982, un site archéologique, rue du Fourchon, au sud de la commune de Seclin (Nord). La fouille, entreprise par S. Révillon, archéologue municipal de Seclin, a permis de mettre au jour un réseau de fossés antiques probablement attenant à un habitat de type indigène. Le matériel céramique, de style gaulois mais d'époque gallo-romaine se rapproche nettement de celui de sites gallo-romains précoces comme : Noyelle-Godault, Lewarde et surtout Villeneuve-Saint-Germain. Il peut être daté du début de la période augustéenne, vers 30 à 20 avant Jésus-Christ. L'étude de la faune provenant des fossés a permi de définir une économie animale fondée sur l'élevage du bœuf, du porc, du mouton. Ce dernier a d'ailleurs fourni la laine nécessaire au tissage pratiqué sur le site comme en témoignent les nombreux fragments de poids de métiers à tisser mis au jour.In maart 1982 ontdekt H. Halbaut tijdens wegenwerken een archeologische site in de rue du Fourchon ten zuiden van de gemeente Seclin. De gemeentelijke archeoloog van Seclin, S. Révillion, begint met opgravingen die een antiek grachtennet (waarschijnlijk palend aan woningen van het inheemse type) aan het licht brengen. De ontdekte stukken keramiek zijn in gallische stijl, maar dateren uit de gallo-romeinse période, en staan dicht bij die uit andere vroege gallo-romeinse sites als Noyelle-Godault, Lewarde en vooral Villeneuve-Saint-Germain. Men kan ze dateren in het begin van de tijd van Augustus, ongeveer 30 tot 20 voor Christus. De studie van de fauna in de grachten wijst op een économie gebaseerd op veeteelt (runderen, varkens en schapen). Met de wol van de schapen werden ter plaatse stoffen geweven : er werden heel wat gewichten van weefgetouwen aangetroffen.Révillion Stéphane, Tuffreau-Libre Marie, Vadet Alain.
