Waiting for the First of May 1886 : The National Labor Tribune and the Workers' Preoccupations. Between 1883 and 1885, the economic crisis dramatically shaped the workers' lives and consciousness : unemployment, wage-cuts, strikes and destitution deepened. The National Labor Tribune tended to blame the crisis on the immigrants and on the monetary policy applied since the end of the War.
