This Must Not Be Put in a Book : Erotic Strategies in Gertrude Stein's Writing. Both to cope with the problem of actual censorship and to satisfy the demands of her own « almost puritanic » reticence about the subject of sex, Gertrude Stein developed over the years a variety of strategies, first based on concealment, then on transfiguration, intended to defuse the sense of prohibition connected with some of the topics she wanted to tackle.
