Basalt querns from two famous protohistoric sites of southern France (Pech Maho, near Narbonne, and Mailhac) were investigated by the mean of micro-textural pétrographie analysis. In Pech Maho, during the IIIrd century B.C., rotary millstones were mainly imported from the volcanic outcrops of St Thibery-Bessan (valley of Hérault river). This situation is opposite to the IInd and Ist centuries B.C., where general data show that Cap d'Agde was the principal source of millstones in southern Gallia. Therefore, the begining of "industrial" production of rotary millstones in Cap d'Agde may be considered as occuring only at the end of IIIrd century.
