Introduction During the last few years, the discovery of the Jules-Verne 7-9 shipwrecks in Marseilles, together with those of many other shipwrecks (Giglio, Bon-Porté, Pabuç Burnu, Cala Sant Vicenç, Villeneuve-Bargemon 1/César 1, Grand Ribaud F, Gela 1 et 2, Ma'agan Mikhael), has provided evidence, on one hand, of the existence during the Archaic Period of a Greek tradition of assembly by sewing, and, on the other hand, the adoption within this tradition, during the second half of the 6th century B.C., of mortise-and-tenon assembly.
