At the beginning of the 20th century, millions of Russians had to flee their country because of social and political upheavals. Most of them chose Europe, and especially France, as their place of escape. Far from their native country, the Russians experienced a sense of loss. Consequently they felt an urge to question national identity. In this paper, I focus on this search for identity in Russian immigrants' writings. The first part of the paper gives a description of the Russian diaspora during this period. The second is focused on three aspects : language, literature and religion.Maire Svetlana.
