The building of a residential block of flats, rue de Beaumont in Valenciennes, led to a discovery of some medieval remnants of great interest in novembre 1973. They are the foundations of the Nuns of Beaumont convent and especially those of the church which were suddenly brought in sight allowing archeologists to recognize the existence of two burial vaults, each carefully decorated with paintings dating from the 14th century which illustrate the artistic tendencies of that period founded on the double trend of mysticism : the tender feeling represented by the Virgin and the Child as opposed to the agony of the Crucifixion.
