Judging that the crucial point of ecclesiastical doctrine does not depend upon trinitarian interpretation, Schleiermacher tries to dismiss the opinion according to which the Johannine «logiology» would imply the doctrine of the Trinity. He also attempts to show that the orthodox «trinitology» is capable of maintaining neither the equality between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, nor that between the trinity of the persons and the unity of the essence.
