Actualité du néochalcédonisme. Un accord christologique récent entre orthodoxes

This article attempts a critical evaluation of the important agreed testament on the christological faith, which was recently issued by the Joint Commission for the Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches (Anba Bishoy, Egypt, June, 1989). In spite of balanced expressions at the "kerygmatic" level, the reference to the Cyrillian formula "One nature (hypostasis) of the God Logos incarnate", as well as the qualification of the divine and human natures of Jesus Christ as distinct "in contemplation only", seem to the author to reflect a "neochalcedonian" approach to christology certainly responds to the common mind of the two families of Orthodoxy Churches, but is not quite akin to the This Occidental, and particularly Roman Catholic, reading of the Chalcedonian dogma. This " Alexandrian" christology should not be identified with the Christian faith so as to exclude the "Antiochian" type christology with which the Western tradition feels more at home.De Halleux André.
