Abstract. - The volume of continental liquid waters is very small, compared with other reservoirs (oceans, for instance). Nevertheless, they are of particular importance to human societies. Still waters and running waters are the consequence of a positive water balance, which varies with space and time. They induce an original kind of ecosystems, changing and fleeting. Taking into account natural and technical processes on long periods allows the perpetuation of those geosys- tems based on the exploitation of such environments.Résumé.
