Progress has been made in working out habitat management methods compatible with the existence of the future national park in French Guiana. A more substantial presence in the field is called for, as well as a more systematic approach to the environment, backed by modern cartographic tools (geographic information systems, satellite imaging). The integration of multisource data (cartography, aerial photographs, etc.) into a geographic information system provides an opportunity for an initial assessment of human impact on the natural environment.
