In the Périgord region, the deserted castrum of Auberoche allows an archaeological approach to the genesis of the stone castle and to the material culture of the rural medieval peopling. Our investigations focussed on three essential sectors that permit us to determine the global history of the site: a terrace habitat in the lower section, a segment of the upper enceinte and the main construction by which it was commanded. Despite their limited nature, these elements revealed the principal phases of the chronotopographic evolution of this castrum of public origin, from the time of its founding by Frotaire, bishop of Périgueux (991) to its definitive desertion at around 1450.
