When studying a medieval monument, the scaffoldings erected for its building, appearas a negative picture, in the form of traces, either in the ground: the holes provided for the vertical scaffolding-poles, or in the facings : the putlog-holes. These latter constitute an exceptional information source about the construction : structure and evolution of the scaffoldings, task organisation on the site, sequences of building... But they also speak large of the technical culture of a region or of a given era.
