In this paper, the author outlines the birth and evolution of Sociology as a discipline, in Japan, China and Korea. Sociology appeared there since the end of the 19th century and has followed different paths although the common origin lies in Western sociology. Interests in the specificities of every culture or territory and links with marxist sociology shape, along with the still influencing American sociology, the multiple possibilities to structure the discipline in each country. Sociologists are pursuing the debate about universality of Sociology as a Social Science and the contribution of it from non-Western sociologists.
