This article attempts to reassess the undertaking of writing a book on the history of Freud's practice in the light of Michel de Certeau' s reflections on the writing of History. At the crossroads of science and narrative writing, the sofa-object must become the vehicle of that historical reconstruction that aims to distinguish between the level of an evolutive "method" and the level of 'processing", without having to put Freud on the sofa.Le projet d'écrire sur l'histoire de la pratique de Freud est relu ici à la lumière des réflexions de Michel de Certeau sur l'écriture de l'histoire à partir du point de vue d'un psychanalyste confronté à l'histoire de sa discipline.
