Institutional investors and private equity The private equity sector, with the support of institutional investors, has grown dramatically in the past ten years. Private equity managers are active and responsible shareholders, who participate in the setting of strategic objectives in the companies they invest in. This makes this asset class compatible with a sustainable development approach very much sought by institutional investors. However, new regulations and the global financial crisis come as a limit to private equity allocations by traditional institutional investors.
