Basel II and Eastern European countries : a central banking point of view This article deals with impacts of the Accord on bank capital regulation on new European member states and the EU. The enlargement to 10 Eastern European countries, from May 2004, and the implementation, December 31st 2006, of the new Basel Accord and future European directive on equity capital (Cad III) should change the banking framework and regulation in the Union. The accession process concerns 10 new members with different economical situations and banking systems. So the future solvency ratio has to increase European financial stability.
