L'apparition du féodalisme dans la péninsule Ibérique. Etat de la recherche au commencement du XXIe siècle

In the 1970s, the historiographic claim to a model of Mediterranean feudalism went hand in hand with the appearance of Hispanic feudalism. Since then, the historiographic evolution of the state of the origin of feudalism has been very rapid, following different rhythms, speeds and contents in the three territorial areas. Pierre Bonnassie's thesis of state published in 1976 established a mutationist model for Catalonia, where the violence of the nobles against the peasants, between 1030/1040 and 1060 lead the latter into servitude and the nobles to the feudo-vasalistic relations. As a result of research in the following decades, the model has been divided out into the Systems de parentage (Ruiz-Doménec), violence (Gari, Bisson), law (Gouron, Iglesia), farming (Feliu, Freedmann), the castles (Riu) and the frontier (Sabaté). This the improvement in interpretation has gone hand in hand with an increase in the publication of documentary sources. These have facilitated the change to the 21st century under explanations that begin with the process of castralisation and feudalisation in the tenth century and conclude in the definitive establishment of the twelfth century. While the historiographic debate in Navarre and Aragon is centred on the orthodox mutationism of Larrea (1998) and Laliena's. moderate mutationism, this, elaborated over the last decade of the twentieth century, interprets a non-violent mutation of the holding of the "honours" around 1020, the establishment of a feudal state in the final decades of the eleventh century and the culmination of feudalism in the military occupation of the Ebro valley in the twelfth century. In Léon and Castile, the traditional thinking contrary to the existence of feudalism defended by Claudio Sànchez Albornoz fell by the wayside in the 1970s after pondering the weight of the pre-Roman societies, with a vigour that would link into feudalism (Barbero, Vigil). The rise of feudalism is sought in the peasant's villages (Garcia de Cortàzar) affected by the class struggle resulting from external noble aggression (Estepa), the internal course closely related to the evolution of the frontier (Mînguez) or the internal social hierarchical structuring (Alvarez Borge). The key is situated in immigration and retaking of the territory (Martînez Sopena, Pena), without forgetting the orthodox mutationist interpretation (Pastor). Nowadays, a large number of young researchers, basing themselves on the analysis of the scarce documentation and the archaeology agree on a progressive vision. This begins with the crisis in the sixth century, accentuated by the establishment of the frontier in the eighth century, that made the residual populations and the new nobles get on with each other at the same time as it articulated the territory between the ninth and eleventh centuries and produced tensions that were resolved through the institutional reinforcement of feudalism in the twelfth century. This historiography has a high content of very innovative research, although with little co-ordination between the different territories.La revendication historiographique d'un modèle de féodalisme méditerranéen, dans les années 70 du XXIe s., s'est accompagnée de l'apparition sur scène du féodalisme hispanique. Depuis lors, l'évolution historiographique sur l'origine du féodalisme a été vertigineuse, suivant des rythmes et des contenus différents dans les trois domaines territoriaux. La thèse d'État de Pierre Bonnassie publiée en 1976 établissait pour la Catalogne un modèle mutationniste, où la violence des seigneurs contre les paysans, entre 1030/40 et 1060, conduisait la paysannerie à la servitude et les seigneurs aux relations féodo-vassaliques. Au cours des décennies suivantes, le modèle s'est fissuré à la suite des recherches sur les systèmes de parenté (Ruíz- Doménec), sur la violence (Gari, Bisson), sur le droit (Gouron, Iglesia), sur la paysannerie (Feliu, Freedmann), sur les châteaux (Riu) et sur la frontière (Sabaté). Il faut ajouter à l'amélioration interprétative une augmentation des publications de sources documentaires, facilitant le changement qui apparaît au XXIe s., avec des explications qui commencent par le processus de « châtellenisation » et de « seigneurialisation » du Xe s. et se concluent par leur établissement définitif au XIIe s. Par contre, en Navarre et en Aragon, le débat historiographique reste axé sur le mutationnisme orthodoxe de Larrea (1998) et sur le mutationnisme modéré de Laliena. Celui-ci, élaboré tout au long de la dernière décennie du XXe s., interprète une mutation non violente dans les tenures des honores vers 1020, l'établissement d'un État féodal dans les dernières décennies du XIe s. et le couronnement du féodalisme par l'occupation militaire de la vallée de l'Ebre au XIIe s. En Léon et en Castille l'opinion traditionnelle contraire à l'existence du féodalisme défendu par Claudio Sânchez Albornoz se brise dans les années 70 suite à la pondération de l'importance des sociétés préromaines, avec une vigueur étroitement liée au féodalisme (Barbero, Vigil). On cherche l'apparition du féodalisme dans les communautées villageoises (Garcia de Cortázar) touchées par la lutte des classes dérivée de l'agression seigneuriale externe (Estepa), par le courant interne très attaché à l'évolution de la frontière (Mînguez) ou par la hiérarchisation sociale interne (Alvarez Borge). La clé se situe dans l'immigration et dans la reprise du territoire (Martínez Sopena, Pena), sans oublier l'interprétation mutationniste orthodoxe (Pastor). Actuellement un nombre très élevé de jeunes chercheurs, en se basant sur l'analyse de la rare documentation et sur l'archéologie, s'accordent sur une vue progressive qui part de la crise du VIe s., accentuée par l'établissement de la frontière au VIIIe s., qui fait s'entendre les populations résiduelles et les nouveaux seigneurs en même temps que s'articule le territoire entre le IXe et le XIe s., et qui débouche sur des tensions résolues par l'affermissement institutionnel du féodalisme au XIe s. Cet ensemble historiographique constitue une recherche très innovante, bien que peu coordonnée entre les différents territoires.Sabaté Flocel. L'apparition du féodalisme dans la péninsule Ibérique.
