In the 1970s, the historiographic claim to a model of Mediterranean feudalism went hand in hand with the appearance of Hispanic feudalism. Since then, the historiographic evolution of the state of the origin of feudalism has been very rapid, following different rhythms, speeds and contents in the three territorial areas. Pierre Bonnassie's thesis of state published in 1976 established a mutationist model for Catalonia, where the violence of the nobles against the peasants, between 1030/1040 and 1060 lead the latter into servitude and the nobles to the feudo-vasalistic relations.
