Bresse : contents and evolution of a geographical knowledge.— The analysis of the evolution of the picture of this region — Bresse — in geographical books, shows an astonishing continuity in knowledge. The few new themes that are introduced are directly connected to the growth of a mainly statistical documentation, that the authors sometimes exploited without examining its actual geographical value. On the other hand, some gaps can be observed concerning important points of the geographical analysis, such as the inner différenciation of the region or its spatial patterns and geographical organization. These oversights lead us to examine the question of the scale chosen by the authors for their analysis, and to consider, in the last ressort, the very finalities of regional geography.L'analyse de l'évolution de la présentation d'une région — la Bresse — dans les ouvrages de géographie fait apparaître une étonnante continuité du savoir. Les quelques nouveaux thèmes introduits sont directement liés à l'enrichissement des sources documentaires, principalement statistiques, que les auteurs ont parfois exploitées sans s'interroger sur leur réelle valeur géographique. A l'inverse, on constate des lacunes sur des points importants de l'analyse géographique tels que la différenciation interne de la région ou ses trames spatiales, son organisation géographique. Ces oublis amènent à poser le problème de l'échelle d'analyse choisie et à s'interroger, en dernier ressort, sur les finalités même d'une étude de géographie régionale.Baudelle Guy, Pinchemel Philippe.
