Comparaison des thèmes iconographiques des calendriers monumentaux et enluminés en France, aux XIIe et XIIIe s.

Elaborated on since the Antiquity, rediscovered and modified by the carolingian artists, the theme of calendars, while undergoing important changes, was highly successful during the 12th and 13th centuries, both in monumental art and in the illustration of manuscripts. If there is a common stock of images to be found running through the calendars, whatever the technique, certain motifs appear only in the monumental cycles, but a great many more being reserved for illuminations. The miniaturists' influence on artists charged with the decoration of churches contributed, particularly in the 13th century, to the enrichening of this iconographic motif.Élaboré dès l'Antiquité, repris et modifié par les artistes carolingiens, le thème des calendriers connait un grand succès aux XIIe et XIIIe s. aussi bien dans l'art monumental que dans l'illustration des manuscrits et subit d'importantes transformations. Si un fonds commun d'images se retrouve dans tous les calendriers quelque soit la technique, certains schémas n'apparaissent que dans les cycles monumentaux, d'autres plus nombreux étant réservés aux enluminures. L'influence des miniaturistes sur les artistes chargés de la décoration des églises concourt, en particulier au XIIIe s., à l'enrichissement de ce motif iconographique.Mane Perrine.
