Gender issues in Dutch geography

This article focuses on 25 years of gender studies in Dutch academic geography. Dutch geography in general is traditionally oriented on planning and policy. The same applies for gender studies in geography. In this respect three themes are predominant. The first theme concerns the time space constraints in the daily lives of women and men who combine paid and domestic work. The second theme refers to the access of women in public spaces. At first this theme was confined to issues of public safety. Later the theme included all mechanisms of gendered exclusion in public spaces. The last theme relates to the participation of women - as professionals, politicians and volunteers - in the male dominated sectors of planning and housing.Les questions de genre dans la géographie néerlandaise. Cet article présente 25 ans de "gender studies" au sein de la géographie universitaire aux Pays-Bas. En général, la géographie néerlandaise est caractérisée par son orientation sur l'aménagement de territoire. Il en est de même des études de genre en géographie. À cet égard, trois thèmes sont importants. Le premier thème concerne les contraintes temporelles et spatiales dans la vie quotidienne des femmes et des hommes qui combinent travail payé et travail domestique. Le second thème a trait à l'accès des femmes aux espaces publics. À l'origine, ce thème était limité aux questions de sécurité publique. Par la suite, il a englobé tous les mécanismes sexués d'exclusion dans les espaces publics. Le dernier thème concerne la participation des femmes - à titre professionnel, politique ou bénévole - dans les secteurs très masculins de l'aménagement du territoire et du logement.Droogleever Fortuijn Joos.
