Equal opportunities in education and selectivity of regional schooling system. Despite an increasing school-leaving age, opportunities to reach the higher levels of long secondary education remain unequal, and vary with the social and geographical backgrounds of the young people. The schooling systems of French regions not only reveal the differences in the social structure of the regions, but also show some specific and complex factors linked to both socio-cultural environment and educational performance of the regions.
