By agreeing, as a general fact, that the low morbidity-mortality is closely connected with the standard of living and the degree of development, we meant to find out to which extent socio-economic changes that happened in Spain over the 70-90 years had an effect upon mortality. Two facts stand out in the evolution of mortality in Spain over the last decades : a prolonged life expectancy at birth and a decrease of the general mortality. Although Spain is one of the countries with one of the lowest rates of general mortality, we can notice appreciable differences from a province to the other one.
