Familles agricoles

Specific characteristics of agricultural families in France. In agriculture, families can hardly be dissociated from their activity. In agricultural surveys, the definition of the family group comes from that of the farming activity, as if acknowledging its double functional role as production unit as well as residential unit. Thus, the characteristics of agricultural families give information on the working conditions relative to the agricultural activity itself. Various types of families correspond to the various types of farming units. The most frequent family group, which is made up of the couple and its children, mainly characterizes the most performing agricultural units, in the northern part of France. The plain association between the family organization and the economic activity is the major aspect of agricultural families.En agriculture, les familles sont difficilement dissociables de leur activité. Ainsi, les caractéristiques des familles agricoles renseignent sur les conditions d'exercice de l'activité agricole elle-même. Aux différents types de familles, correspondent différents types d'exploitation. Le groupe le plus répandu, formé par le couple et ses enfants, se rencontre sur les exploitations les plus performantes situées dans la moitié nord de la France.
