Après que... ou la fluctuation des modes en français parlé

This paper considers a syntactic variant which contrasts with the standard construction : the subjunctive mode after après que instead of the indicative one. The analysis of the use of mood following the conjunction shows a lot of fluctuation in spoken as well as in written usage. The authors discuss the notion of syntactic variation in the light of the discussion about the existence of pure syntactic synonyms, and show that in this case the explanatory elements are both extralinguistic and intralinguistic (the explanations usually proposed seem partly inadequate). We adopt Jean Stefanini's perspective, who continues the approach of Gustave Guillaume, explaining the differences between the moods in terms of " aims ".Cet article examine l'alternance entraînée par la conjonction après que entre l'indicatif standard et le subjonctif. L'étude montre que l'usage parlé aussi bien qu'écrit fluctue beaucoup. Les auteurs discutent la notion de variation syntaxique à la lumière des discussions sur la possibilité d'une synonymie syntaxique. Ils montrent que dans le cas de après que, les éléments d'explication traditionnellement avancés sont partiellement inadéquats ; ils se rallient à la perspective de Jean Stéfanini qui prolonge l'approche de Gustave Guillaume en expliquant les différences de signification entre les deux modes en termes de visée.Canut Cécile, Ledegen Gudrun.
