In Japan, the way death and the practices dealing with it are apprehended through the Buddhist rituals greatly differ from the traditions observed in Europe. Facing very concrete issues, such as the conservation of the body or the relations with the close or distant relatives, the doubts of any modern society (is there really a life after death ?) and the wish to preserve a spiritual tradition (ancestor worship), Japanese families have to deal with a delicate situation.
