The history of the sanctuary of Po Nagar at Nha Trang is known through inscriptions dating back to the 8th through the 14th century. There, the female deity Yāṅ Pu Nagara was worshipped - a cult that paralleled the cult of the male deity Bhadreśvara at My Son. The detailed study of the inscriptions allows a better understanding of the organization of the sanctuary and of the different deities worshipped in it at the side of the goddess. It shows also the elaboration, over the time, of a political discourse which turned the goddess into a symbol of the earth of Campā and a female counterpart of the god protecting the kings of Campā at My Son.
