Using Greek literary texts and inscriptions from the first millennium B.C., the author shows how, in a concrete way, each Greek city exploited the whole of its territory, the plains, the bush, the mountains and the marshes, so as to achieve, as nearly as possible, self sufficiency, « autarkeia », which is the justification of the city, according to Aristotle.Rougemont Georges.
