L'Espagne : une géographie de la population dans l'ère postindustrielle

The ten-year period 1981-91 is characterized by an increase in the contrast between regions, with the must favoired areas being Madrid and the Mediterranean coastal strip between Alicante and Gerona. The difference between birth -and death- rates has fallen to a minimum, with a clear distinction between the northern half of Spain (where the rates are still positive, but showing a rapid decline). The total figures for employment-related migrations for the period 1981-86 show a tendency that reverses the 1960-75 trend : negative in the major industrial centres (Catalonia, Basque Country, Madrid, Valencia), whereas areas formerly marked by emigration show an influx of returning immigrants. Between 1986 and 1991, immigration shows an increase in Madrid, Catalonia and the Valencian Region, whilst the Basque Country continues to show overall emigration. The provincial capitals show developments that reverse the trends of the rest of the province, with sharp increases in the cities and depopulation in the outlying areas, except where large metropolitan areas hare developed or there is an active tourist trade.La decada 1981-91 secaracteriza por acentuar los contrastes regionales a favor de la acumulación demográfica sobre el litoral mediterráneo entre Alicante y Girona, y de Madrid. Los excedentes naturales se han reducido al mínimo, con clara división entre la mitad norte de España, ya con tasas negativas, y la mitad sur, aún con tasas positivas pero en acelerado declive. Las migraciones netas, como reflejo de las situaciones económicas, en 1981-86 muestran tendencia opuesta a la del periodo 1960-75 : fueron negativas en los grandes centros industriales -Cataluña, País Vasco, Madrid, Valencia-, mientras las regiones antes emigratorias acumularon «inmigr antes» de retorno. Durante 1986-91 se reactiva la inmigración en Madrid, Cataluña y País Valenciano, mientras el País Vasco continúa con emigración neta. Las capitales de provincia muestran evoluciones opuestas al resto de sus espacios provinciales, con fuertes crecimientos en las primeras y despoblación en los segundos, excepto en los que han desarrollado grandes áreas metropolitanas y turismo.Gozálvez Pérez Vicente.
