The main stages of human development (Upper Neolithic, Bronze age, gallo-roman period, Middle Ages) in the Berre pond catchment (France) are shown by the pedogenetic clay minerals of the holocene sediments. Besides, the smectite cristallinity deary deteriorates in four levels.
