The environnemental and economic impact of water distribution has long been underestimed. This has become more évident since 1992 with the institution of water quality standards and with more knowledgeable and demanding consumers. The Limousin is peculiarly concerned with this water issue since it happens to be a country of many springs. However, the exploitation of this French reservoir region happeng to be somehow complex. The springs are characterised by low reserves and small quantity of outlet because the subsoil is essentially composed of primary rocks wich are impermeable and very resistant.
