In many Pacific islands, reef tracts possess emerged sandstones and conglomerates, ranging from the present to about 6.000 years B.P. in age. Reaching a maximum elevation of more than 1 meter above present mean tide level, these deposits occurs mainly as subhorizontal terraces of poorly sorted, hardly to weakly cemented, skeletal elements. Determining the environments of their lithification allowed their reliability of indicators of Recent sea level changes to be estimated.
