ABSTRACT The french region « Centre » has a very heterogeneous peopling : a dense track (the ligerian axis) crosses low-density areas punctuated with a few medium-size cities. The major communication axis don 't coincide very well with this situation. Most of the well-equipped directions are set toward Paris, which is not far from the region; they cross it according to the well-known scheme of the « spider-web » of railways. The 1986' agreement between French Railways and the region, signed nine years after a too ambitious Regional Transportation Scheme, gave initiative to the Regional council, but there has been no important changes as late as September 1990.
