The author strives to raise the question of the empirical object of psychoanalysis, namely the question of the nature of the observable empirical data to which psychoanalytic theory and practice refer. In a first stage the author looks at some of the answers which have been given to this question: it has been proposed notably to define the empirical object of psychoanalysis in terms of behaviour, drama, action and signifier.
