Diversity of trajectories and the path effect: Post-Soviet transitions The economies in transition have diverged so much that the diversity of the paths taken seems to have replaced convergence as a paradigm. The interpretations proposed by economists of all tendencies are critically reviewed herein. Serious theoretical and methodological problems arise that lie at the center not just of the debate between the standard paradigm and heterodox currents but also of the debate that seeks to establish a coherent basis for the heterodox paradigm in economics.
