Aspects of « indebtedness » of Eastern European countries within the market economies This article raises the question of what is meant by "indebtedness" in the context of East-West economic relations. Indeed, the concept does not carry the same meaning for the lawyer and the economist. The first part of this article seeks to define what unites, as well as what divides, these two views-points, which, according to circumstances, may be complementary or mutually exclusive. In the second section, these distinctions help to throw light on such aspects of indebtedness, in countries with a planned economy, as do not come within the definition of "balance of payments" and "debt" in the current meaning of these terms, in other words, non-monetary...
