L'industrie de l'aluminium en Hongrie : coopération ou autonomie?

The Hungarian aluminium industry : a question of co-operation or autonomy. Hungary has considerable supplies of bauxite ; she was also, prior to the war, successful in developing production of alumina and aluminium with the aid of German technology. After the war, the bauxite/aluminium industry was run by a mixed Hungaro-Soviet company until 1954. Development of this industry in Hungary was impeded by problems of fuel supply. Under an agreement made with the USSR in 1962, a large part of the Hungarian production of bauxite and alumina is exported to the Soviet Union, processed into aluminium and re-imported. Hungary invests in the bauxite/ alumina stages of production, where Hungarian technical expertise is considerable and can benefit the export market; there is also investment in finished products. But can it be said that the fruits of Hungarian-Soviet co-operation are shared out on an equitable basis, taking account of costs of production, fuel and transport ? Would it, on balance, be more profitable to manufacture aluminium in Hungary, either using her own fuel resources or importing them ?La Hongrie dispose de considérables réserves de bauxite ; elle a également, avant la guerre, réussi à développer la production d'alumine et d'aluminium avec l'aide de la technologie allemande. Après la guerre et jusqu'en 1954, l'industrie de la bauxite/aluminium a été administrée par une société mixte hungaro-soviétique. Le développement de cette industrie en Hongrie a été entravé par des problèmes d'approvisionnement en ressources énergétiques. Suite à un accord signé en 1962 avec l'U.R.S.S., une grande part de la production hongroise de bauxite et d'alumine est exportée vers l'Union soviétique, transformée en aluminium, puis réimportée. La Hongrie investit dans les procédés de transformation de la bauxite/alumine où elle jouit d'une grande expérience technique et qui peuvent être un atout pour l'exportation ; elle investit également dans la fabrication de produits finis. Mais peut-on dire que les fruits de la coopération hungaro- soviétique sont partagés équitablement en tenant compte des coûts de production, de ceux de l'énergie et des transports ? Serait-il, au total, plus profitable pour la Hongrie de fabriquer l'aluminium, à l'aide de ses propres ressources énergétiques ou en les important ?Dezsényi -Gueullette Agota.
