The Cobb-Douglas Production Function and Evaluation of the Parameters of Growth in the Soviet Economy. The author examines the Cobb-Douglas function, and questions its relevance as applied to analysis of the Soviet economy. The tacit assumption underlying the Cobb-Douglas function is that the substitution of "capital" and "labour" is regulated by the free movement of prices. The relative scarcity of a given factor leads automatically to a vice in its price, and causes a displacement of preferences towards another factor which is relatively less scarce, and whose price is therefore more accessible.
