Press Legislation in Poland (1918-1939). The author traces the historic background of press legislation and the political events of the twenties and thirties in Poland which eventually led to the promulgation in 1938 of a decree governing the press. The existence of non-uniform legislation, held over from the period when Poland was divided between Russia, Prussia and Austria, made this unification of the law necessary. The decree of 1938 remained in vigor, at least partially, until 1969 when the new penal code replaced all preceding legislation.
