Unexpected Events in Modern Czechoslovak History : A Case for Political Sociology. The events referred to are: the Communist electoral success in 1946 and the reform movement in 1968. This article attempts to explain both events in terms of changing political attitudes due to external and internal circumstances or causes. The main external chain of circumstances was due to the interplay of Nazi German and Soviet Russian power policies. The changing pattern of these influences produced the basic framework for shifts in attitudes of individual political and socio-cultural groups in Czechoslovakia.
