Depression's influence on mothers' responses to infant's facial expressions and vocalizations was studied in 20 depressed and 20 non depressed women. The two groups were asked to categorize the emotion experienced by a 2 month-old infant producing 4 facial and 3 vocal expressions and to scale the intensity of emotion these stimuli expressed and elicited. Results support the hypothesis that negative or neutral expressions elicit more negative reactions among depressed women. Furthermore, depressed women showed closer concordance between the emotion supposed to be expressed by the infant and their own elicited emotion. These results are analysed in term of therapeutic outcome.L'influence de la dépression sur les réponses de la mère aux expre...
