Reading acquisition may be approched from two main theoretical perspectives ; one underlying the use of letter-sound correspondence ; the other focuses on the development of semantic search procedures. Two reading acquisition methods might be distinguished that are named « ideovisual » and phonetic. The present study compares the effect of two technical reading assistances (Elmo logicial and intrasyllabic method developped by R. Treiman) on first year grammar school children's reading performances.
