Social support, coping and psychological health after a flood Two years after serious flooding, a study was conducted involving 177 disaster victims. This article presents the results of analyses aiming to identify the principal factors associated with post-disaster psychological problems by examining mediating or moderating influences of social support and adjustment strategies in the stressor-health link. The results show, within the variables studied, that there are very few significant differences between men and women; however, women did receive more help for evacuation, cleaning, and rebuilding. The results also demonstrate that exposure to the stressor is the greatest contributor in explaining manifestations of post-traumatic stress...
