ABSTRACT: In our tradition, metalanguage and autonymy find their roots in Greek thought (Porphyrus, III-IV cent. A. D.). Nevertheless, we encounter them also in the falsafa (e. g. F r b, IV/ X cent.) and, from then onwards, in the Arabic linguistic tradition. The second part of the article will be devoted to this logical-philosophical tradition in the ar al-K fiya by the grammarian Ra al-d n al-Astar b d (VII/ XIII cent.).
