L'évolution récente de l'Aiguillon-La Faute-sur-Mer (Vendée)

SUMMARY The agglomeration of L'Aiguillon-La Faute-sur-Mer is a good exemple of the transformations caused to the villages of the vendean cost by the growth of tourist trade. Its population, after a continous decrease during the first half of the XXth century, has increased a lot in the last twenty years but the average age is high, tends to get higher and the rate of activity is low. Economical life is getting altered. The exploitation of the sea, especially mussel- growing, remains important but agriculture is waning while the rush of summer residents causes the rise of commerce and building trade owning to the multiplication of cottages. In spite of those favourable bearings, tourist trade cannot secure alone, in the future, the economical prosperity and the keeping of young adults in the market-town. Other permanent activities should be raised up particularly by planting small industries, which is not what is being done al present.RÉSUMÉ L'agglomération de L'Aiguillon-La Faute-sur-Mer est un bon exemple des transformations que connaissent les bourgs ruraux par le développement du tourisme sur la côte vendéenne. La population, après un déclin continu dans la première moitié du XXe siècle, a beaucoup augmenté ces 20 dernières années, mais la moyenne d'âge est élevée, le vieillissement s'accentue et le taux d'activité est faible. La vie économique se transforme. L'exploitation de la mer, surtout la mytiliculture, reste importante mais l'agriculture décline, tandis que l'afflux des estivants suscite V essor' du commerce et du bâtiment grâce à la multiplication des résidences secondaires. Malgré ces aspects favorables le tourisme ne peut assurer seul, à terme, la prospérité économique et le maintien sur place des jeunes adultes. Il faudrait susciter d'autres activités permanentes, notamment par l'implantation de petites industries, ce qui n'est pas le cas actuellement.Cabanne Claude.
