La propriété foncière dans le département de la Mayenne en 1970

SUMMARY In order to draw up a table of the landed property in the department of Mayenne in 1970, the author has studied the cadastral documents of the 276 communes of a department of 517 000 hectares (1 276 990 acres). Small holdings of less than 10 hectares (24 acres) possessed bv country people, prevail in the north of the department, as in the Bocage Normand. Middle or great landowners predominate in the centre and in the south of Mayenne where the rural nobility still has strong positions. But citizens, own the main part of their land, there. The town-property covers almost one third of the total of the land that's a high percentage in a rural department. Whereas, about 1840, the influence of Laval and of the urban centres of Mayenne was preponderant, the town property is now ruled by cities outside the studied district : Paris, towns from the limitrophe departments.RÉSUMÉ Afin de dresser un tableau de la propriété foncière dans le département de la Mayenne en 1970, l'auteur a examiné tes matrices cadastrales des 276 communes d'un département de 517 000 hectares. La petite propriété de moins de 10 hectares, tenue par les ruraux, s'impose dans le Nord du département comme dans le Bocage Normand. La moyenne et la grande propriété dominent dans le centre et le Sud de la Mayenne où la noblesse rurale garde de fortes positions. Mais les citadins possèdent ici l'essentiel de leurs terres. La propriété citadine couvre près du tiers de l'ensemble des terres ; c'est un pourcentage très élevé dans un département rural. Alors que vers 1840 l'influence de Laval et des petits centres mayennais était prépondérante, la propriété citadine est surtout contrôlée, aujourd'hui, par des villes non mayennaises : Paris, villes des départements limitrophes.Macé Georges.
