SUMMARY In order to draw up a table of the landed property in the department of Mayenne in 1970, the author has studied the cadastral documents of the 276 communes of a department of 517 000 hectares (1 276 990 acres). Small holdings of less than 10 hectares (24 acres) possessed bv country people, prevail in the north of the department, as in the Bocage Normand. Middle or great landowners predominate in the centre and in the south of Mayenne where the rural nobility still has strong positions. But citizens, own the main part of their land, there.
