Le remembrement rural dans le département des Côtes-du-Nord

On the first of January 1970, the re-earthed surface in the county of « Côtes-du-Nord », in Brittany, was 243,832 acres, that is, 19,5 % of the total surface to be consolidated. The re-earthing began in 1950. The outset has been slow, but since 1963, the flow of operations has accelerated. To-day, the most important of the re-earthed areas is in the south, and in the centre of this county of « Côtes-du-Nord ». The reasons for this location are complicated ; they are the result of the mentality, ownership, the cultivation system, and, in fact, remain elusive. The work connected with the consolidation is of great importance in the county of « Côtes-du-Nord », both in the building of new roads and the pulling down of hedges and partitions. This work improves as much the peasants' living conditions as the reorganisation itself of small areas of farming land. As a result of this consolidation of land, wooded areas are being, transformed into open country. Le remembrement a commencé en 1950. Les débuts ont été lents, mais depuis 1963 le rythme des opérations s'est accéléré. Aujourd'hui l'essentiel des communes remembrées se rencontre dans le Sud et dans le Centre du département. Les raisons de cette localisation sont complexes. Elles tiennent aux mentalités, à la propriété, au mode de culture, et, en définitive, demeurent insaisissables. Les travaux connexes au remembrement sont très importants dans le département, tant en ce qui concerne les chemins que les arasements de talus. Ces travaux améliorent les conditions de vie des paysans autant que le regroupement du parcellaire proprement dit. Le remembrement crée des paysages ouverts en zone de bocage. Aussi, l'opposition traditionnelle entre le littoral d'openfield et l'intérieur des terres bocager disparaît-elle peu à peu.Guellec Agnès.
