In this article, the author studies the forms of suburban houses prior to the present-day population increase : farm houses which have survived, and worker's houses, evidence of the development of residential suburbs around state quarries. — Among the Loire valley rural house types of which examples have survived in the immediate neighbourhood of Angers, the elementary (or « block ») house, connected with small farms and vegetable and fruit-growing, predominates.
