This article shows, as accurately and succinctly as possible, the current situation of women in the Québec labour market. Since a proactive law on wage equity was adopted in 1996, Québec has often been cited as a model in terms of equity for women. Based on the main labour market indicators, we have demonstrated that, despite numerous interventions in this area over several years, the situation of women workers in Québec is still today characterized by occupational segregation and the persistence of wide wage gaps. Two factors have been put forward to explain this situation: the continuity of gender-based prejudice in society and in work environments, and the existence of new forms of sexism that are difficult to detect.
